Extract from interview:
"I led a happy life. We didn’t have much, but the necessary. I was proud to be a teacher. Then came Perestroika, and overnight everything changed. Our men lost their jobs, I was not paid for over nine months. One day, I met this acquaintance who had found work in Italy. So I worked up the courage and got on the bus. I didn’t know yet that I wouldn’t see my sons for two years from then.

In Ukraine, my work was my life. I wasn’t a slave. But ever since I have come to Italy, it is my job to help people, to serve them, to care for them. I carry this work out with dedication. Yet, I have noticed that I have gotten used to serving people. I try to please everybody, to serve everybody. I am afraid of this change in me."
